McMillan Reservoir
This project is part of a large mixed-use redevelopment of the former McMillan Sand Filtration site.
The Project
This project is part of a large mixed-use redevelopment of the former McMillan Sand Filtration site. Funded by public-private partnership, the “Reservoir District” project, which had been delayed by years of litigation, is set to revitalize the historic site. The purpose of this specific project phase was to allow demolition of the historic DC water sand filtration cells along the north side of the site adjacent to Michigan Avenue NE. Gilbane hired Steele Foundation to design and install a sheeting system to retain Michigan Avenue.

Challenges and Results
Steele Foundation utilized driven soldier beams using a crane, a diesel hammer, lagging, and hollow bar tiebacks. Benching and staging the site for the sheeting installation alongside the sand filter demolition required close communication with Gilbane and the site/demo contractor.
